 Welcome to the farm!

When my husband left the military, we decided to return to his beautiful Colorado home to raise our family. Little did we know that we'd begin the most massive undertaking of our lives.

We soon moved onto a 5-acre field and began constructing our dream home, my little green farmhouse. We have done nearly all the work ourselves, juggling nights and weekends from our day jobs to build this new reality. Backyard chickens had always been a passion of mine, and I was eagerly dreaming of the day I would have room for a much larger flock.

Needless to say, the chicken coop was built well before the house.

To save money we opted to live on-site as we built, our temporary home being a large camper trailer. The novelty of this tiny-home style of living wore off quickly, and I've been growing impatient as we have continued to build. Finally, nearly two years since we first broke ground, our home is nearly finished. We have only a few more odds and ends to complete before we move in late this summer.

Along the way, I've managed to build a beautiful garden and orchard (I have plans to open a farm store on the property once the building is complete) and I've acquired two sweet baby alpacas, with a third slated to join the herd in a few months. They recently had their first shearing and I'm excited to begin working with the fiber they've provided (and it's a LOT, you guys!).

But the best parts of this experience were the small, unexpected delights, things like watching my children eat fresh peas straight from the vine for the first time, taking my alpacas on daily walks where they marveled at each alfalfa bush we passed, and seeing the first peaches emerge in the spring. To say my life has changed would be an understatement.

Now, knowing a bit about how we began and where we are, I hope you enjoy the blog. It will be a bit of everything from the final stages of home building to daily life on the farm. Some will be fun, some informational, and hopefully, you might even find some inspiration here!

Cheers and thanks for stopping by!
